On April 10, 2025, the second “Sustainable Construction Summit” was held at Sea Breeze Resort, jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Industrial Safety Association (AISA) and PMD Projects LLC, under the concept message “people. planet. prosperity.”
The summit spanned a full day and included opening speeches by Vugar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Nariman Topchibashev, Director of PMD Projects LLC, Ilgar Isbatov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, and Orkhan Khalilzadeh, Chairman of the Board of AISA. The program also featured a Davos-style panel “Follow-up” dedicated to discussions on the Sustainable Green Construction Declaration, an exclusive “Open Conversation” session, a workshop supported by PMO.az, and “The Builder’s Awards” ceremony. The summit brought together 7 speakers and around 250 industry leaders, executives, and decision-makers.
In his opening speech, AISA Chairman Orkhan Khalilzadeh emphasized the importance of environmental protection and efficient use of resources. He noted that sustainable construction approaches provide not only ecological benefits but also economic and social advantages, highlighting the need for broader collaboration in this field.
The “Follow-up” panel, moderated by Tural Yusifov, co-founder of the Green Public startup, featured speakers Gulchohra Mammadova, Rector of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Ilgar Isbatov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, Nariman Topchibashev, Director of PMD Projects LLC, and Mahayet Nabiyev, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kristal Absheron MTK. The panel discussed current trends in urban planning and construction, sustainable building solutions, and the importance of project management, as well as the development of local and international collaboration and innovative approaches in the sector.
Emin Agalarov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Russia Business Council and owner of Sea Breeze Resort, emphasized that modern construction projects must preserve ecological balance while ensuring long-term social and economic benefits.
Darren Komber, Director of Scott Brownrigg, delivered a solo presentation on sustainable construction, highlighting its importance and noting that innovative approaches in this area are continuously evolving to meet new requirements.
The exclusive “Open Conversation” session featured notable speakers including Erden Timur, Chairman of the Board of NEF and former executive of Galatasaray, Bekir Yener Yildirim, Chairman of Neo Portfolio, Kenan Jalilov, Honorary Consul of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan, and Ehtiram Guliyev, Founder and CEO of Huner Group. Panel discussions focused on green construction solutions, economic efficiency, and the role of leadership in sustainability. The session also addressed key questions and introduced new approaches for advancing sustainable construction.
At “The Builder’s Awards” ceremony, companies contributing to the development of Azerbaijan’s construction sector were recognized. Awards were presented in categories including Sustainable Construction Company Award, Environmentally-Friendly Civil Project Award, and Emerging Builder Award, with winners selected by an independent expert committee based on transparent criteria.
Additionally, an interactive workshop titled “people. planet. prosperity. in practice”, based on the 5P standard developed by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Green Project Management (GPM), demonstrated practical applications of sustainable development principles in project management using real-world examples.
